St. Peter’s Choir sing a service of Lessons and Carols for Advent, on Sunday, December 10 at 5:00 p.m. The service is held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in St. Louis, Mo. David Sinden will lead the choir in music of William Byrd, Michael Wise, Igor Stravinsky, Lennox Berkeley, Jane Marshall, Judith Weir, Malcolm Archer, Melissa Dunphy
This Advent service is modeled on a service held at St. John’s College, Cambridge, England since 1956 (the Mander organ of St. Peter’s Church is inspired, in part, by the Mander organ at St. John’s).
Music old and new proclaims Advent themes throughout the service’s four sections: 1) the Message of Advent, 2) the Word of God, 3) the Prophetic Call, 4) the Christ-Bearer. The pattern of this service reflects the season’s growing anticipation, both of the first coming of Christ and of that day when the prayer “Thy Kingdom come” is finally and fully answered.
Everyone is welcome at this service. There is ample parking in the lots surrounding the church.
