Kathryn Haydon, Ph.D., is a scientist, church musician, and independent literary scholar. She has given poetry recitations at literary conferences in Boston, Mass., and Lausanne, Switzerland; and her recitation of the 999-line poem “Pale Fire” by Vladimir Nabokov has been viewed over 5,000 times on YouTube since 2022.
David Sinden is an organist and choral conductor noted for his “centered leadership and solid musicianship.” Since 2015, he has been the Organist and Director of Music at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, St. Louis. He has studied organ improvisation with Gerre Hancock, Bruce Neswick, William Porter, and Jeffrey Smith.

Music old and new proclaims Advent themes throughout the service’s four sections: 1) the Message of Advent, 2) the Word of God, 3) the Prophetic Call, 4) the Christ-Bearer. The pattern of this service reflects the season’s growing anticipation, both of the first coming of Christ and of that day when the prayer “Thy Kingdom come” is finally and fully answered.
This Advent service is modeled on a service held at St. John’s College, Cambridge, England since 1956 (the Mander organ of St. Peter’s Church is inspired, in part, by the Mander organ at St. John’s).

The King of Instruments is St. Louis’s weekly program of organ music airing Sunday mornings at 7:00 a.m. on Classic 107.3 FM. Come see and hear a live recording of an episode of the King of Instruments. David Sinden and other local organists will join hosts Mark Scholtz and Bill Stein on the evening of Tuesday, June 4 at the organ of First Presbyterian in Kirkwood. We’ll hear an assortment of repertoire as well as discussion with each of the performers about their works.

Maria Polesky, violin, and Dr. Scott Elsholz, organ, will premiere a new work for violin and organ composed by David Sinden.
The piece, which was commissioned by Dr. Elsholz, will be premiered at St. Louis Church in Memphis, Tenn., on Monday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m., as part of a recital called “Litanies and Laments.” The recital features the newly renovated Casavant organ at St. Louis Church, and includes music by J. S. Bach, Marcel Dupré, Jehan Alain, and Samuel Barber.
David Sinden co-leads the music for worship services at the Diocese of Missouri’s “Healing in the Heartland.” His setting of Psalm 130, which was written for this occasion, will be sung in the morning worship service.
At the morning worship service the celebrant is the Rev. Stephanie Spellers, and the preacher is the Rev. Naomi Tutu. Music is co-led with Connor Scott.
